Yesterday I visited Saltaire, to see the 1853 Gallery, which is the home of many David Hockney paintings. Hockney is from Bradford, although he now lives in California. He is one of my favourite artists! It's an absolutely amazing place, gets better every time you go (this must be about my tenth visit). Saltaire is also a very unusual town, purpose built by Sir Titus Salt to house his factory workers- (so called because of Salt and the river Aire). The light is very distinctive there. It's a very beguiling and inspiring place. I bought a massive sketch pad with which to fill with landscapes on my imminent trip to Devon...
