Hello Tiger, where ever you are.

A picture of the latest project, a medieval symphonie; the pre cursor to the (wrongly named ) hurdy gurdy. Hurdy gurdy is a Victorian name, an insult. The original late Medieval and Tudor instruments were actually called Vielle en Roue, literally meaning "circular violin".

The strings are sounded by a resined wheel turned by a handle. The notes are played by stops, called tangents in the pegbox, on the left hand side of the picture. It's not finished yet though and I'm on a short time scale if you know what I mean...! -Auntie Elenor knows.

Hello Kath if you're reading this!!! You have reached the inner sanctum of my thought processes. I promise not to publish anything embarassing!

I did a mammoth talk to some very nice people from Oxburgh Hall today, they picked my brains for everything they could. I even got a tip at the end! It was about 4 hours of jabber start to finish, with as much pottery stuff crow-barred in as I could!

That is one nice looking instrument. It will be absolutely beautiful once restored. Hubby just received an interesting package in the mail from a former student who went back to China after graduating, an erhu, sort of like a two-stringed violin but quite a bit stranger. Now he’s got to figure out how to play it!
