little birdy..

Hey Anna if you're reading this, this is why I have an auditition-not coz of the ugly persona, but the ever obsessive collection of instruments. My friend Richard is a music promoter (see band on last entry...!) he also has his own band who play Irish music, so I maybe playing alittle 5 string banjo for them... I've been twanging away all weekend much to the dismay of Mrs Somers. I've finally laid to rest the ghost of the Blue Horses... Is it too far to come for a jam Carpetbagger?!! I've just restrung a lovely flat-iron mandolin (its the middle instrument in the photo). I'll pour you a Gin and Tonic !

Mein deutsche ist schiessen

I went to see an amazing band last night-Schelmisch, which loosely translates in German as mischevious. They certainly were. Two of them were percussion, the other four played various instruments such as shawm, mandolin and cittern, the best bit was when they all played bagpipes to what sounded almost like a Marilyn Manson beat... I tried speaking German to Frago the drummer much to his amusement-I did learn the words for Postman, Illness and Learning (bizarrely!) from him. He played a tipped up bass drum about 4 feet wide, it looked like one of those radio telescopes on Goonhilly Down! My ears are still ringing, but it was worth it.

comfort in sound

Nothing to see, nothing to say... Just biding my time till the start of the next big project. I spent today working on my home built symphonie, a medieval instrument which evolved into the 'vielle en rue' or hurdy gurdy (a misnomer...). Will post some pix, can't be bothered tonight. Looking forward to seeing a folk band in Warsop on thursday, also got an audition soon.... scarey!!! Must practise.

Here be lions....

I am shattered tonight. Its been a long week. The highlight being wednesday when we hosted 'Le zag' at the hall, an Italian folk band. They were really, really good.

In a world of fish hooks, you're the wave...

If you get up early for the next three days (6-30 ish) and sit by the Trent around the Gainsborough/Stockwith area, you will actually see the reason for the title of my blog. You really can chase the Aegir, just like Cnut. Me, I will be tucked up cosy in my warm bed, I know you can't hold back the wave.
