Magic hair

Well, I had lots to say, and now it's all gone. Ain't that always the case!
The week has flown by, I've spent all afternoon in the hospital with a hypertensive, but generally Ok partner. Junior seems to be quite happy in his/her little den. Only 8 weeks to go now. We've been buying lots of stuff.
Snuggle blankets are particular fun...Apparently they are supposed to be for the baby.

I get the impression that we're overdue...

I'm only a week late in posting this, we have had our annual Christmas fair, a two day event with crafts, music, (including a brass band), food and an open fire in our medieval kitchen.
My feet were frozen solid after two days of standing in the cold. An all round enjoyable weekend though, a few old faces turned up ( Rosemary, Yvonne, Sally... Sue! ) I was missing a few of my contemporaries, especially Donel. Destined to stay till the end..!

ablutioneers

...why indeed! To answer a question from my very good friend, I suppose it's because it's warm and comforting and a place I tend to sit and read, philosophize, daydream and fantasize, occasionally even clean.

...did your string come undone?

Do you sometimes wonder about your own mortality? OK stupid fucking question, who doesn't. I occasionally have these moments, quite often in the bath . I thimk I've finally reached an age where I feel vulnerable, not teenage invincable. It suddenly occurred to me the other day that, should my child live to 80 then he/she will see the year 2088. How mind blowing is that?... I hope he/she has a happy life.

Take your white finger...

The wall.... I have been painting a wall in "Special Needs" area of the day centre. Purple stripes in the fashion of a bar code. I'm quite proud of it actually.

Only problem is I painted the facing wall last week which now looks shit, so I want to re-do it!

Mrs somers is even larger and has finished work... Not long now.

Not much else to report really. It's so cold at the moment. We really need to get the Aga going, once the chimney has been swept ( I know it's nothing like the cold in Canada Elenor, ..!!!)

Hello Tiger, where ever you are.

A picture of the latest project, a medieval symphonie; the pre cursor to the (wrongly named ) hurdy gurdy. Hurdy gurdy is a Victorian name, an insult. The original late Medieval and Tudor instruments were actually called Vielle en Roue, literally meaning "circular violin".

The strings are sounded by a resined wheel turned by a handle. The notes are played by stops, called tangents in the pegbox, on the left hand side of the picture. It's not finished yet though and I'm on a short time scale if you know what I mean...! -Auntie Elenor knows.

Hello Kath if you're reading this!!! You have reached the inner sanctum of my thought processes. I promise not to publish anything embarassing!

I did a mammoth talk to some very nice people from Oxburgh Hall today, they picked my brains for everything they could. I even got a tip at the end! It was about 4 hours of jabber start to finish, with as much pottery stuff crow-barred in as I could!

Standing on the shoulders of giants

Wednesday saw our send off in the pub for Sue, our beloved Principal Keeper who has retired early. Out of all the people I've worked with at the Hall, Sue will be the one I most miss; she has also been the one I have most respect for (especially after all the recent re-organisation shit that has gone on and achieved nothing). Sue always gave me openings for pottery workshops and demonstrations and supported my own creative ends to the benefit of the museum. I don't think she realises just how much we will all miss her.
The new regime has alot to live up to. I'm still not sure that I want to be part of it...
Mrs Somers is still feeling sick and significantly further down the line! We have been doing some serious pram shopping, narrowed down to the Loola deluxe aluminum frame, super folding pram/stroller/teasmade superior! All in for an obscene amount of money, but after all, it is only money. What price comfort? (and style of course!).
